Do you ever wonder if God is there? If He cares? If He even knows who you are?
You’re not alone. Many people wonder, especially if they haven’t experienced God’s love through their families, their schools or churches … yet.
“I was a teenager before I realized how much God loved me,” said Barry, New Day’s pastor. “I’d grown up without knowing my biological father and often wondered why I wasn’t worthy of having a dad like every else. God was outside of my experience, too. I’d heard about Him, but I didn’t know Him.
“Like any teenager struggling with purpose for existence, I started making some poor choices and was headed down a path I now realize would have caused me nothing but heartache and trouble.
“Then life changed for me. My mother remarried, and my stepfather adopted me and took me to church. Those people loved me. It finally dawned on me that God was loving me through them. In time, I also realized I had a decision to make. God wanted me, but would I accept Him?”
God wants a relationship with you, too! We know that because God sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus died to get to know you: “But God demonstrated His love for us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 NIV).
Relationships, by their nature, require involvement by more than one person. Do you want a relationship with God? If so, here’s what you have to do on your part:
Agree with God that you are a sinner and turn away from your sins.
The Bible tells us, “All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23 NIV).
Believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of your life.
God’s Word tells us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 NIV).
God will come into your life through a prayer like this:
I know that I am a sinner and ask that you forgive me for all my sins. I turn to Jesus Christ, God’s Son. I ask Jesus Christ to come into my life and be my Savior and Lord. Thank you for loving me, and I want to tell you that I love you!
